Today is International Day of Families, and we're thinking about all the different ways families show up for each other in our community.
Some families have everything they need to thrive. Others are working hard to get by, facing challenges that make it harder to provide the …stability and opportunities every child deserves.
This year's theme is "Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing" – a reminder that inequalities don't just affect families, they shape children's futures, influencing their health, education and overall wellbeing.
In our work, we see families navigate housing uncertainty, stretch tight budgets, and find creative ways to support their children despite barriers they shouldn't have to face. We also see the incredible love and determination that drives families to keep going, even when things get tough.
Every family deserves support that meets them where they are. Today we celebrate families in all their forms, and the strength they show every single day.

Children and youth thrive when connected to family and community.
At HPCAS, we know how important it is for young people to maintain ties to their culture and heritage – essential parts of their unique identity. This is why we work to keep children within their circle of love whenever …possible.
We partner with parents, caregivers and community to provide equitable and culturally aligned services. When children need protection, we search for extended family and trusted kin who can provide safe environments while maintaining important identity connections.
Every child deserves a network of caring adults they can count on.

This month's leadership spotlight goes to Darlene, one of our Program Managers who truly embodies what family-centred practice looks like. ✨
"Every child deserves to grow up safe and supported within their family and community whenever possible," she says, and she means …it. Not as a nice idea, but as something that actually guides how she approaches every situation.
Instead of looking for problems to fix, Darlene listens for what's already working. She helps families see their own strengths and build from there. When families create their own safety plans using their natural supports, the results speak for themselves.
The growing focus on prevention gives her real hope. More families staying together safely – that's what keeps her motivated.
Darlene, your commitment to seeing and building on family strengths makes such a difference in how we serve our community. We're grateful for your thoughtful leadership and the way you champion families every single day! 💚
